Technical data
The main goal of this acquisition was to capture the region of Cygnus X-1 and the effects of this extraordinary system on the surrounding interstellar medium. The field includes Sh2-101, the Tulip Nebula, an H II region in Cygnus, surrounded by extensive emission structures and dark interstellar dust. To the right of the Tulip, the faint curved shock front associated with Cygnus X-1 is visible, particularly through the [O III] signal. Cygnus X-1 is a stellar-mass black hole in a binary system with the blue supergiant HDE 226868. The image is an SHO composition processed with the Foraxx palette.
