A quick look at NGC 6888, the Crescent Nebula, in the constellation Cygnus, captured in HOO composition: half of the integration time devoted to Hα and half to OIII. Despite the short integration, the generous aperture and fast focal ratio allowed me to reveal not only the brighter internal filaments, but also the much fainter outer OIII envelope surrounding the nebula. NGC 6888 is a wind-blown bubble created by the powerful stellar winds of the Wolf-Rayet star WR 136. The complex shells and filaments originate from the interaction of the fast WR wind with material expelled during earlier evolutionary phases of the star, while the [O III] emission beautifully traces the outermost structures of the nebula.
