Technical data
A wide-field image from the dark skies of Namibia featuring two spectacular star-forming regions: M16 (the Eagle Nebula), home to the famous Pillars of Creation, and M17 (the Omega Nebula). I processed this image in the SHO palette, trying to preserve the original color balance as much as possible, without suppressing the much-debated green! What I find particularly interesting is the clear difference in color between the two nebulae, probably reflecting differences in their physical conditions, chemical composition, or relative emission-line strengths. M16 appears dominated by Hα emission, while M17 shows a more prominent relative contribution from [S II] in several regions. I wanted to preserve these differences rather than force both nebulae toward a more uniform color palette.
