Technical data
Image submitted for the Seestar Galaxy Season Challenge. M101 is a large spiral galaxy in the constellation Ursa Major, characterized by spiral arms rich in Hα regions and intense star formation. Its typical blue appearance is caused by the high concentration of young, hot and massive stars spread throughout the galaxy. The additional 4 hours captured with the LP filter were specifically used to better enhance the Hα emission regions within the spiral arms. During SPCC calibration, the “Sd Galaxy” profile was selected in order to better match the spectrophotometric characteristics of this galaxy and preserve its naturally blue stellar population.
